Job Description:
As a Research and Development (R&D) Senior Scientist I for Innovation, Technology, and Quality (ITQ) at General Mills, your primary responsibility will be to drive technical strategies and initiatives, supporting the growth of existing products and the development of new ones within the bakery business, with a strong emphasis on the NDWT (Non-Dairy Whipped Toppings) portfolio. This role involves influencing the business’s technical feasibility, bringing innovative ideas to life through prototyping and a consumer-centric design approach, collaborating closely with the R&D team, and gaining a deep technical understanding of product development and technology to bring these products to market successfully.

Main Responsibilities:
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape innovation strategies, build pipelines, and execute product launches for food service customers. Your role demands a consumer and operator-first mindset, cultivating empathy for customer needs and translating them into innovative product ideas. Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading renovation and innovation projects to drive business growth within the allocated product portfolio.
  • Designing, developing, and commercializing products that meet consumer, business, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Managing projects effectively to meet all critical milestones.
  • Collaborating with operations to take projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Driving new ideas, qualifying them, and executing to support business growth.
  • Ensuring core food safety principles throughout product development.
  • Collaborating with suppliers, ESCs, and technical partners to introduce innovative solutions and technologies to General Mills.
  • Developing and maintaining ingredient and finished product specifications.
  • Identifying potential food science and ingredient/process technologies, both internally and externally.
  • Providing technical leadership for product launches, post-launch support, margin management, and cost-saving projects.
  • Building networks, collaborating, and influencing various functions and technical teams within General Mills.
  • Cultivating a learning, safe, and inclusive environment within the broader teams.
  • Championing intellectual property protection and documenting technical knowledge.
  • Facilitating knowledge sharing within the ITQ department.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Degree Requirements: Master’s degree.
  • Preferred Major Area of Study: Food & Allied Science, Technology.
  • Minimum years of related experience required: 5 years in R&D of Non-dairy whipped toppings.
  • Preferred years of related experience: 6-8 years.
