Job Title: External Manufacturing Senior Scientist

Job Function: R&D (Q&FS)

Job Purpose:
As the Senior Scientist for External Manufacturing Quality Assurance (EMQA) at Mars, your role is pivotal in executing the QFS strategic direction for GEM’s external manufacturing operations. Your focus will be on creating a risk-based approach that ensures adherence to Mars standards while promoting an accelerated model that benefits all parties involved. You’ll lead by coaching, guiding, and supporting the cluster EMQM, and you’ll oversee governance for sourcing standards to ensure quality is designed into new initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Design a risk-based approach for onboarding new Co-manufacturers, assessing Q&FS and legal risks.
Serve as the standard owner for GEM region sourcing standards, with a focus on EMQM.
Instill Mars principles and culture while driving growth portfolio acceleration.
Collaborate with commercial and supply teams to ensure External manufacturers adhere to MARS Q&FS requirements.
Implement co-manufacturing Q&FS governance and metrics, verifying quality management systems’ effectiveness.
Train Mars EMQM cluster associates on problem-solving tools and root cause analysis.
Lead the COP for GEM, building a technical community of expertise.
Strategically collaborate and coordinate with co-manufacturers.

Context and Scope:
In this role, you’ll ensure the implementation and maintenance of Global Quality & Food Safety Standards and Factory Quality Management Process (QMP). You’ll drive a continuous improvement culture and ensure new product development and technical changes prioritize quality.

Education & Professional Qualifications:

Academic education in food science/technology/chemical engineering/industrial engineering or similar.
FMCG experience in various aspects of the food or pet industry.

Knowledge/Experience Professional Qualification:

Minimum 5 years experience in Quality or Food Safety role in the food industry or related industries.
Strong relationship builder with excellent commercial awareness and supplier management skills.
Effective strategic thinker, planner, project manager, and organizer.
Demonstrated leadership aligned with Mars’ quality-first principle.

Key Skills:

Expertise in HACCP, ISO, and quality & food safety management systems.
Basic knowledge of microchemical and physical hazards.
Proficient in PRIMP or incident management.
Skilled in risk assessment & management.
Familiarity with food processing equipment & engineering.
Understanding of Lean Six Sigma methods.
Quick learner and adaptable.
