Role: Food Technologist (R&D and QA)
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Food Technologist (R&D and QA) at Mount Meru Foods. As a Food Technologist, you will be responsible for sensory evaluation, food technology, laboratory skills, quality control, and research and development t asks to ensure the quality and safety of our products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop new formulations and lead reformulations of existing recipes in collaboration with the culinary team.
- Analyze ingredients and map out parameters critical to ensuring quality throughout the product’s shelf life.
- Research and integrate ingredients, concepts, and processes to optimize taste, color, odor, consistency, shelf-life, and cost-effectiveness.
- Research and lead processes for licenses, certifications, regulatory approvals, nutritional labels, allergens, and contaminants.
- Implement product testing protocols and perform quality assurance tests on production batches before approval and dispatch.
- Perform safety inspections on incoming raw ingredients and ensure they meet established quality standards and sensory benchmarks.
- Collaborate with third parties, including food testing labs, for comprehensive tests such as shelf-life, nutritional analysis, microbial analysis, allergen testing, and more.
- Record and organize data related to research, batch testing, and recipe formulation.
- Assist in developing manufacturing, food handling, and storage protocols for production.
- Support the identification of optimal preparation and preservation methods, and assist with necessary equipment procurement.
- Help identify the ideal packaging form factor, balancing functionality, shelf-life, aesthetic value, and cost.
- Assist in staff training to follow established protocols and best practices during production.
Qualifications:
- Laboratory experience and quality control knowledge
- At least 2 years of experience as a food technologist
- Sensory evaluation skills
- Experience in new product development and reformulation
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards
- Experience in quality assurance and quality control
- Understanding of commercial food manufacturing processes and machinery
- Attention to detail with strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to source, assess, and integrate ingredients into products, recipes, and processes
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field
